What is Smallprint?

Hello!  Thanks for calling by my blog. You clicked in here because you wanted to try and work out what this is all about – here goes:

When Alex, my oldest son, began to speak – I quickly became very confused. Why does he say ‘No’ when he clearly means ‘Yes’? More to the point why does he say ‘I not like that’ when he is eating the foodstuff in question so fast I worry that he might choke?

After many hours of observation I came to the realisation that his thought processes were not correctly wired up – and this appears to be typical amongst his peers. Then began my crusade – to examine the musings of the toddler mind, and to attempt to ascertain the ‘small print’ of toddler conversation.

SmallPrint
One man’s attempt to decipher the generally unspoken, decision-making algorithm, that a toddler appears to live life by. The logic of this system is usually factually incorrect and based on unsubstantiated beliefs. Application usually results in strange, yet humorous situations.  Inaccuracies need to be corrected through parental instruction and perseverance.

Recognising, and acting upon identified traits of the aforementioned SmallPrint is the key to success.

Such work in the field has yielded a lot of different definitions – those that you and I would assume, and the Smallprint version – which can be a little unpredictable at best.  Thankfully this insight has been compiled into the SmallPrint Dictionary – which you can peruse from here at you leisure.

Enjoy!

Hi Mark. Thank you for coming to my blog. Yours is cute. I’ll be back.

A little tip for you. If you want to link your blog to your name, go to your “profile” and where it says “website,” add this: http://readsmallprint.org/

This way your don’t have to write your address in each time and someone will be able to click on your name and come right here.

    • Thanks for that. It was cracking me up! By the time I got my blavatar and gravatar sorted I thought that was it! Thanks for all the kind comments!

Anytime Mark. I got an awful lot of help when I first started too. It’s friends that make the world go round. Having your name linked saves a lot of time and will bring people back here.

        Mark,
I don’t know if emailing you here is the best venue for asking questions, but I’m loving how you customized your blog! How did you create/add your family tree? Also, where is your home page artwork from? You must be a computer guy! Any tips you’re willing to share?

Thanks for visiting my blog [that's how I found you]. I appreciated your encouragement :)
Hope to hear back from you!

        Jane [Heartscape]

[Mark] – Hi Jane thanks for this! Unfortunately I am not a computer guy! My friend Heather made the graphics for me. I am delighted with them. I have added Heather’s blog to my blogroll – you can check out some of her doodlings there! As far as the set up of the page – my friend Pete did that for me (Heather’s husband). I had a quick look to see how Pete did it – it seems that there are widgets (thingmibobs boxes that are on the right of my page!) and they are edited under the appearance tab on your desktop. I think he has saved the picture in the media section and then inserted a piece of script (code) within the widget that tells it to look up the location of the picture. Don’t know if that helps – but may help you find the right place in the wordpress help section!

hi mark, I too have a toddler and am often baffled by her thought process: sometimes brilliant, sometimes ridiculous.

I’ll be back for more visits.

  4. I haven’t seen any new posts in a while so I hope all is well.

At the risk of sounding sappy, I miss your writing, it’s good stuff.

Hi Mark! I wanted to let you know that I have absolutely enjoyed your blog. I must say that it refreshing to find someone blogging out there with a similar sense of humor about kids and the mayhem subsequently involved. The smallprint dictionary is a brilliant twist. Also refreshing is the daddy point of view! Keep up the great work and feel free to come join me for a visit in my world – or rather, Max’s at: http://theworldaccordingtomax.wordpress.com/
